Of Fences

Offenses.
Of fences.
Built by and erected upon
Unhinged emotions.
Broken. Desiring
To keep many out —
Guarded.
But even with our hearts being encased in these fences,
Our hearts are still hardened,
And we begin to look no different
Than the one who offended
Us in the first place.
Spitting image.
Locked in,
No division.
Smitten with carrying the hurt
You didn’t deserve,
So you dig holes
To hold the grudges.
Cover them,
And like a timeless time capsule
You remember —
On cue —
Everyone who hurt you.
Offenses.
Off and of fences —
Fences built by your own hand
To keep out Forgiveness.
